Next up in the Side Hustle series: Gym-Pact.
I have a love/hate relation with Gym-Pact. I love it because it forces me to exercise. I hate it be there is virtually no support and there was a month there where I was only getting paid once every other week.
How it works:
Gym-Pact works like this: You set the number of days a week you agree to workout and you set the amount of money you are willing to wager per day that you will meet this pact. For example, you can wager you will workout two days a week and that you will pay $5 a day that you miss. At the end of the week if you only worked out 1 day, you would be forced to pay $5. If you meet your pact and worked out 2 days that week, you get a cut of the profit from all the other people who failed. Brilliant. The more days you work out and the more you wager per day, the more you get back each week. It’s not a lot of money, but being a fat kid I need the exercise and I don’t mind getting paid to do it.
It works by using GPS to let you check in at your gym. You have to be at that location for at least 30 minutes for it to count. If you are like me and hate gyms, they also let you connect to another app, RunKeeper. RunKeeper tracks where you go and how fast you go via GPS. As long as you go fast then 2 mph and no faster then the limit they have set for your type of exercise and also exercise for at least 30 minutes, it will count and be synced with Gym-Pact.
It forces me to exercise because if I don’t, I have to pay. And that payment comes directly from the allowance I get each month. That means I have less each month to spend on important things like a bike or cigars.
Currently, I’m making about $1.30-$1.70 a week and my pact is working out 3 days a week at $30 per missed day. See, BIG incentive for me to walk. :)
How do you make money on the side? Let me know in the comments.
